What We Wore Wednesday

I love adding vintage vibes to my preppy wardrobe. This shirt I got at vintage clothing store a while back I have featured it before. But I still love it. And I seem to always wear my pearls with it. But this time I freshened up the outfit with a fun ponytail.
Pants: New York and Co
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Macy's (gift from Steve)

For the ponytail I did a bit of back combing along the crown. Then I pull all but a front piece to the back and secured with a binder.
The front piece I pulled and bobby pined to the back to make a nice swoop in front. I finished of the look with the velvet bow. I know I bought this bow for Mouse but she has yet to actual wear it, I keep stealing it.

Mouse has gotten all of her new shirts from her birthday. This one being the last of the gifts. We have a thing with foxes at our house.
And keeping it real this is how her bedroom looks most days. Clothes to be put away on the floor and stuffed animals all over the floor behind her. Not mention that none of us make our beds.

What We Wore Wednesday

I tend to wear a lot of what I call the royal colors, bright blue, red and dark purples mixed in with black and white. I am trying to slowly add other colors to the mix, like last weeks orange/coral/peach decision.  But for the most part I stay pretty much the same.
 Jacket and Sweater: Target
Scarf: Thrifted
Pants: NY & Co
Boots: Macy's
I love the preppiness of this outfit. The sweater gives the look of a three piece suit and the scarf takes out some of the stuffiness of the outfit.

I also bought my first pair of ankle pants. I am still not sure if I am tall enough to really pull them off. But I do love them, they are comfy and the perfect shade of blue.
Pants: Limited
Sweater and Tank: Thrifted
Shoes: Very old but I think DSW

Mouse hit a home run in this cute outfit. Her brown velvet coat and floral deer skirt worked perfectly together.

Jacket and Boots: Thrifted
Skirt: JC Penny
Tights: Target

What I Wore Wednesday

I have been in love with all the maiden braids out there in blogland and Pinterest, so I just had to try my own out.

In my version, I started with a low back pony tail. From there I started work a French braid around my head.
(Blue Bow: Antique Shop)
I worked my way all the way back around to where I started. To cover the meeting point I added a big velvet bow. Because "Bowties are cool."
I used bobby pins to keep it in place and pull in crazy loops. I loved the look of this but I have to say it's not a look I can do all day. It did start to fall out after mid-day.

Tops from 2012

This past year has seemed to fly by. Looking back through the post of this last year, I must say it's been a fun one.
My favorite part of last year was a family trip to here.
I love that we can take these trips and experience all that there is. So looking forward to our family trip to Jamaica this year.
We also managed to get a lot of projects completed this past year. My favorite one being our new door.
Seriously the difference this made to the look of our house is incredible. Still months later this makes me smile when I pull into the drive.

Another remake we did that I love is our thrifty bench find.
I can't wait to get some pictures taken using this bench. Which brings me to a huge thing from last year. I started my own business. That has been challenging and fun all at the same time.
Thus being said my picture taking in general has increased a lot this year. And I have been looking at different ways to document those pictures. That is when I stumbled on this thing called Smash Journal / Art Journaling. So I combined the two (though this one is much more just a smash journal).
I hope to work on more of this in this next year.
I haven't forgotten Mouse. Her and I did some fun knock offs for school this year. No Mini Boden budget here but you couldn't tell with the shirt we made. I had so much fun planning these out with her. We will have to do move of that next year.
So what else do you our readers (and us) have to look forward to next year. I am hoping to get our project page done. Then you can see all that we have been working on in one place. I am hoping to do more recipes. I cook all the time I need to post more. We have one more room in our house that needs to be finished and a few more outdoor projects. But for now it's New Years and we have a party to get ready for. So see you all next year.

What We Wore Wednesday

If someone would have told me years ago that I would be wearing blue and black together I would have denied it. That was one of those fashion faux pas that I did not do. But thanks to trend changes and blogland I am mixing and matching all sorts of stuff.
Red Skirt: Made by me
Sweater / Tank : Target
T Shirt: Ragstock
Scarf: Thrifted

Mouse has been wearing this lately
Yep Volleyball is in full swing at our house. And she is doing so good for her first year. She even made the winning serve in their last game. I am very excited for her.
Then for school pictures she wore this outfit.
Jacket, tightsand tee: Target
Skirt and shoes: Thrifted
Necklace: Etsy

Vintage finds

I realized I forgot share about this great find. Props are all the rage when it comes to baby pictures in these parts, so when I am out and about I am always on the look.

I can't believe I found this vintage scale, it will be perfect for new born pictures. I am thinking it needs a fresh coat of paint though. But what color? I am thinking green or yellow to go the neutral route. What do you think?

What have you been finding at the flea market, thrift shops or garage sales?

Chair / Photo Prop

In our search for vintage dining room chairs I found this chair with great lines!
I knew I had to have it for my business.

Steve painted the chair a olive green color.

Then I got to work on redoing the seat. First note to those trying to recover a seat.

Since the pad I bought was obviously not going to work, I came up with a new idea. I had some fleece that would stretch all the way around so I staple that to the back leaving a spot open. I then filled the space between the seat and the fleece with batting. Once filled I stapled the fleece closed.

After that I took this pleated material and started stapling that. When recovering a seat you want to staple once at the front center and then back center pulling the material tight with each staple. Then repeat this step as you move to each side of the center staple. Then repeat set one as you move to the sides. I leave the corners for last. Finally fold the corners and staple.

Then you are done and can screw the seat back on to the chair. I am so excited with how this chair turned out I can't wait to use it.

What We Wore for Family Pictures

Even though we live in Minnesota (the frozen tundra of the lower 48) I am not a snow person. So I am not sure why I was so set on getting pictures taken in it this year. But at first snow fall we rushed to my Mom house for a new set of family pictures. In this area my Mom and I work well together, I love setting up the shot and she loves taking the pictures (playing with her cameras). Here is what we wore for pictures:
On Me
Long Sleeve Tee: Old Navy
Winter Vest & Scarf: Thrifted (Savers)
Jeans: American Rag
On Mouse
Sweater: Thrifted and refashioned by me
Dress: Target
Socks: Target Woman's socks refashioned to legwarmers
They were part of Mouse's Christmas outfit 3 years ago.
Boots Thrifted
Headband: Claire's or Target not sure
On Steve:
Sweater: Geoffrey Beene
Button Down Shirt: Van Heusen
Jeans: Bass
This one is my favorite picture from the day.
So this is what we wore for family pictures.

What I Wore Wednesday- Give me some shade

Minnesota has about 6 weeks of great summer weather. I unfortunately decided to get Lyme's disease and have to spend them in the shade. The medication for Lyme's is a strong dose of anti-biotics and this particular kind make you very sensitive to the sun. Since I burn looking out a window this was a little worrisome to me.
But Steve knew what to do, he had me go out and buy a big floppy hat to cover my face and some 50 proof (yes, you read that right 50, no tan for me) sunscreen. I also picked up some long sleeve shirts. But I found my best coverage came from a swimsuit cover-up I bought for a trip last year.
So this is how I spent the weekend at the lake with the family. You will see I have on a cover-up, a big floppy hat, swim suit and am sitting under the awning of the pontoon. And like always when at the lake a book is considered an accessory.
Hat: Gap
Sunglasses, Cover-Up & Sandal: Target
Book: Reluctant Burglar by: Jill Elizabeth Nelson (great book)
Swim Suit: Sears

I also have been looking at long skirts as I said in yesterdays post. So here is the skirt I made to attend a baby shower this weekend.
Shirt: Thrifted
Belt & Tank: Target
Pearls: A gift from Steve, Macy's
Shoes: So old I forgot
Skirt: Made by me

And just for fun
