What I Wore Wednesday ~ Pale Pink and Denim

I seem to go a spree of outfits with the same color. Or if I find a color combo I like I find a way to wear it for fun and for work.

The fun version of this outfit was my pale pink shorts I picked up at the end of the season last year and never wore with tights like I planned to all winter. But I think they paired great with my denim shirt and pale pink baubles and denim wedges.

I took the shirt and the wedges and added a pale pink skirt for work. This time with a white tank underneath. 

And of course a good photo bomb from our huge white cat. 

The fabric flower in my hair was made by me .

The flowers were pre-made and bought from Micheal's. I added vintage buttons to the center from my massive collection. To the backs I added simple hair clips, both were added with hot glue. I gave one to my sister-in-law and kept one for myself, though I am sure Mouse will steal it soon.

Baby Headband Tutorial

This past week friends of ours had a baby girl. This gave me a reason to make some baby clothes and accessories. I was really excited to finally be able to make a rosette headband.

You know the ones were the baby is all cute and girlie with pretty rosettes on her head, like this one

Thankfully, I have a large stash of fabric and colored elastic (which is hard to find outside of a website). I started the headband with a length of red elastic and a heated up glue stick.

Next, I took strips of fabric in varying colors. Don't know how to make the rosettes check out this post it's the process I follow.

 Once the rosettes were made the rest was easy. I just hot glued them to a piece of fabric then cut around it. Lastly, I took that piece with the rosettes and covered it with hot glue then laid it down over another piece of fabric with the elastic sandwiched between the two. (I should have taken a picture of this step, sorry.

To finish it off I just knotted the elastic, this way they can change the size if they need to.  

I am happy with the way it turned out. So is Mouse she wants one now too and you know what I think I may make one for myself too.

Remembering Lora Jean

I met you, LoraJean way back in Jr Camp. We looked like the Von Trap family following our counselor around camp singing. And the pictures of you and Sarah Gabel giving me the look of enough already with that camera. Back in those cabins everything was easy and simple still.

Then we slid apart during the Jr Sr high years. You took the good girl route, I wish I had. You always seemed to laugh at life. That the world was a such a happy place to you. I remember your positiveness just seemed to bubble forth in everything.

Floral Outfit for Mouse

It has been a while since I made Mouse a full outfit. It might have been since her birthday. So last weekend I got to work on three outfits. My favorite of the three was this floral number.  I bought this fabric years ago and just finally got to it.

First I cut out the skirt, just a straight rectangle pattern, twice the width of Mouse's waist. I then added a strip of white satin ribbon along the bottom. Hemmed it and added the elastic. I finished the skirt off with a white backed flower on the white ribbon. Mouse added the tights, they were a perfect match.

Next I took the left over material and cut out some of the flowers. I added a few of them to her shirt with a quick stitch around the edge of the flowers.  I also took one of the flowers and add some white fabric to the back. Then I glued it to a hair clip. The whole outfit turned out pretty good, I think.

Fixing a shirt is a snap!

So I bought this Anne Taylor t-shirt around Christmas time with a gift card I received from my Mother-in-law (she loves me)! Now one thing to know about me is that I am horrible with my clothes. Horrible is putting it mildly. Which is why I don't spend a lot on my clothes. But this t-shirt was different. It has pearls, beads and rhinestones on it. I knew I had to be careful with it. Steve was given instructions to not wash the shirt. That I would take care of it.

BUT.... I am set in a routine. I took the shirt off, turned it inside out and threw it in the laundry bin. Days later Steve comes to me with my newly washed t-shirt, that is now missing three pearls! He didn't recognize it inside out and I threw it in the bin. A combination of errors leads me to a Brainblast

**BrainBlast! Oh how I miss Jimmy Neutron. Why can't Mouse be into those shows any more? Why did they quit making new ones***

Back to my snappy fix. I was working on a new hair flower when I realized that it would hid the missing pearls perfectly. I looked around for a pin to add the flower to. No such luck! Then I came across my box of snaps. That's it!! I sewed a snap to the t-shirt and snap to the flower. Now I can sew more snaps on the other hair flowers I have made. This way I can change up the look of the t-shirt and still remove the flower for washing... HAND WASHING this time!

Fabric Flower Pin Tutorial

I made this three fabric flower broach the other day. I used burlap (left over from these place mats), some white fabric that has been left over from numerous projects, and some white thin cotton that I can't even remember where I used it. I also used a vintage button from my massive button collection.
I love my button collection. I have received buttons from tons of different people. When my new work space gets finished in our basement, I am going to organize them by color, it will look so pretty!
Ok, I will get back to working on the pin.

For the burlap one, there has been tutorials all over the blogging world for this one so you can skip this one if you like, just scroll down. Otherwise, start by cutting out circles in your fabric for the size flower you want. I cut out 11 circles, One of them I used for the base.

Then you fold the circles into quarters (half then half again). Then you hot glue them on to the base in a circle pattern.

See like this picture. I did two layers of this, for the second layer I laid them over the separation marks of the first layer. Then I took the last two and folded them in quarters again and glued them upright in the center.
As for the next flower well that one was really easy.

This picture is suppose to be of a bunch of white fabric circles but it was on a white tray and bad lighting so really it just looks like a crappy photo. I think I cut our about 8 or 9 circles. I also cut out one more circle in the burlap for a base. These ones I cut our smaller then the burlap because I wanted varying sizes on the pin.

I then scrunched up the thin fabric and hot glued it to the burlap. I did this with all the layers until it got to the desired fullness. Yep, that was it. I know, hard right! As for the third flower you will have to check out this tutorial since I forgot to take pictures of it getting made. Once all three were made I glued them all to a piece of felt. Then trimmed the felt so you couldn't see it. After that I glued it to a pin.

For the pin, I actually use an old round pin. I have a HUGE collection of pins. You know those kind they give out at parades. I used to do pageants and collected pins from all of the royalty and festivals we would go to. I have no desire for them now. So I have been peeling the top part off of them and using the metal circle and the pin part to make these pretties. The metal circle helps stabilize these larger broaches. And here is the finished product.

I know this whole post is terrible pictures, I have to remember to move to a room with better lighting, when I am working at night.
