What We Wore Wednesday

I have spent all summer and fall searching for the perfect pair of gray booties and I have to announce:
I FOUND THEM!!
I am so pleased with these little boots. Thank DSW for having the perfect pair at a great price.
Even with my pasty legs they still look great.
My first time wearing them I paired them with my new Old Navy T-shirt and A.n.a Jeans. Unfortunately the blue wash of the jeans rubbed off on the boots a bit but no to bad. I still love them.

Mouse on the other hand has plenty of cute boots but she has a thing against wearing shoes indoors, she absolutely refuses to do it even for pictures. So imagine this outfit with cute knee high black boots.

What We Wore Wednesday

It's my birthday! Yep, it is! So, I get to make it my day. Which means I am pretending it is not 10 below outside. I am pretending I am not at work.
On my day, I would be waking up late, drink some coffee and then do some online shopping.  After that I would go out to lunch then walk around some shops. To finish the day dinner with family.
But since, I can't do any of that till Saturday, I will just do the normal What I Wore Post.
I am loving how soft these over the knee socks are from Target.
Also soft is Mouse's new sweater dress.
I think she just likes it because she gets to wear her hot pink tights.
My other soft cold weather item is my red sweater. I am kind of excited by the long tank under it.

What We Wore Wednesday

I was so excited when I found this owl skirt! Seriously it's the cutest pattern ever. Thank you Bass outlet for a cheap price and a fun, quirky pattern and that it matches my mustard sweater!
Again I can say thank you to the blogging world to get me outside of my comfort zone to buy this skirt.
Mouse loves her grey skirt and tights look. Though I am not sure if I like how old she looks in this combo.

What We Wore Wednesday

Years ago I tried to do the full bangs look and an hour afterwards I had them pulled back with bobbie pins. Since then I have been very hestitant to try them again. But I was looking for a change with this hair cut and I really didn't want to mess with the length. So I did the Zooey Deschanel bangs look...
And  I love them! I am not sure why I waited so long now.
And look at those pretty waves, I love my hairdresser friend, she makes my hair look so good.
See even with the total "Mom" look outfit the bangs still look good. And I can't say enough how much I love ThredUp.com! These Chaps pants $6, new with tags still on them. Love that store.
I can't remember how I styled my hair up before bangs, they whole look is just better. And after two years I still love this owl scarf, thanks Mom!
And Mouse can pull off the blazer and t-shirt look like no ones business. If she would let me I would dress her in some form of this look everyday. As it is I probably dress her in it once a week.

What Mouse Wore

Fall in Minnesota is crazy, one minute it is cold the next we have a heat wave. Mouse didn't mind the heat wave at all. In fact I think she enjoyed being able to wear shorts and capris to school.
But her favorite item to wear this year is her new "Dr Who" shoes, which are really just a pair of black/ Navy Blue (we're still debating this) Converse tennis shoes.
As you can see same shoes, she loves it!
And she wore them here with her Target shorts and top. With our little photo bomber, just look at that hair.
She did add the shoes to this outfit to after the picture. This shirt came from my new favorite place to get her clothes www.thredup.com. If you have not checked it out yet do so! I just picked up a pair of barely worn DKNY jeans for her for $6! I can't wait till they come in the mail.

What is your kids go to item this year?

What I Wore Wednesday

I went back to my staple black and white quite a bit these past few weeks, but with moving an office black was just better. I also got to wear my new Charming Charlie necklace.
I have been working on perfecting the scarf hair-dos. Most the time they just slide right out but this one actually stayed throughout the whole day.
Mouse has been so excited to go back to school. But I have been excited about the first week, it's the only week she lets me have more of a say in her wardrobe. She picked out the tops but I got to pick bottoms and shoes.
Top from Thredup.com seriously in love with this store. Almost all of Mouse's clothes come from there now.
And we can't forget the cute photo bomber, he just loves to be next to his cousin.

What We Wore Wednesday

Yep, school started so it's back to what we wore. Since summer is a non-dressed up time for the Mouse, it's fun for me to see her get all dolled up for school again.
I think the first day of school outfit is my favorite outfit of the year. Mouse really looked cute this year too. She wore her new favorite shirt from her Aunt Jaime and sparkly pink flats.

Mouse loves cat shirts and her style must be rubbing off on me because last week I picked up this shirt.
It's a fox shirt!! A year ago I may never have picked out this shirt but this year I couldn't pass it up.
I did realize that I should not take a picture of myself in gauchos and no heels.
I have to say I am soo glad Mouse's style has rubbed off on me. I am in love with the shirt.

What I Wore Wednesday ~ I love my new dress!

It is hard to see in this picture but this dress is the perfect shade of cream and made with the perfect amount of chiffon. OK, really it's not perfect, perfect but it is pretty darn close and when you factor in I got it for $4 at the thrift shop it makes it even closer.
Yes, I am wearing tights and boots here, but it rained a lot this past month so I had to pull the boots back out. I truly love how this outfit worked out. I got to wear my jean jacket which I still love after all these years. I also wore my birdie headband another favorite. You know what I think I need to wear this outfit again!

I have been on the hunt for a nautical scarf this past month and I finally found one. By pure accident, we were walking past a clothing shop I never go into and decided to at the last minute and there it was! I paired it with my navy blue striped blazer and my favorite red shoes.

Of course Mouse wanted to get back in the pictures since she was dressed up. Did I mention the cold rain making it seem like fall at times. Mouse says she is posing like the girl on the t-shirt, but you can't see it in this pictures. The girl is walking a dog on roller skates and Mouse is pretending she is walking the cat.

Final cold weather pictures for WIWW

This week is finally starting the warm up process in Minnesota. It took forever this year. Which means I still have some cold weather outfits to show you all. So as the rest of the WIWW link up girls are posting shorts and sundresses we are still tights and sweater bound here. One good thing we are just in sweaters or jackets we normally don't need both.

Mouse here in her thrifted finest. I do love the long duster sweater on her. I also love that she has no problem with thrifted finds.

I also brought out my favorite thrifted find. I am just loving this owl printed dress. It paired nicely with my maroon tights and boots.

Hopefully this was the last of tights and sweaters here in the tundra. Today it is 80 or so the weatherman says. We'll see...

What We Wore Wednesday ~ Pink Ladies

I grew up watching Grease, its one of the first movies I remember from my childhood. I had most of the songs memorized by the time I was in kindergarten. Thankfully I didn't understand them all. And now my daughter has been asking about the movie and singing the songs and I cringe.
And smile.
My fear that she will one day understands the lyrics to Grease Lighting and what that means to her innocence but right now she just wants to
"Ramma lamma lamma ka dingity ding da dong
Shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yippity boom da boom
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop
Dip da dip da dip do wop da dooby do
Boogy boogy boogy boogy shooby sho wap sho wap
Sha na na na na na na na yippity dip da do"

And we wear pink .
Jacket: Thrifted
Sequin Top: New York and Co
Jeans: Macy's America Rag
Shoes: GAP

Mouse had 50's day at school and went for the classic sock hop. Though she said her legs were cold and pulled up the socks
Sweater and Jeans: Target
Tee: Old Navy
Shoes: Thrifted

"We go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong
Remembered forever as shoo-bop sha whada whadda yippidy boom da boom
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop that's the way it should beWaooo Yeah"

What We Wore Wednesday

I tend to wear a lot of what I call the royal colors, bright blue, red and dark purples mixed in with black and white. I am trying to slowly add other colors to the mix, like last weeks orange/coral/peach decision.  But for the most part I stay pretty much the same.
 Jacket and Sweater: Target
Scarf: Thrifted
Pants: NY & Co
Boots: Macy's
I love the preppiness of this outfit. The sweater gives the look of a three piece suit and the scarf takes out some of the stuffiness of the outfit.

I also bought my first pair of ankle pants. I am still not sure if I am tall enough to really pull them off. But I do love them, they are comfy and the perfect shade of blue.
Pants: Limited
Sweater and Tank: Thrifted
Shoes: Very old but I think DSW

Mouse hit a home run in this cute outfit. Her brown velvet coat and floral deer skirt worked perfectly together.

Jacket and Boots: Thrifted
Skirt: JC Penny
Tights: Target

What We Wore Wednesday

Shades of orange or is it coral?? I am never sure what to call this color I keep buying. No matter the name I do love the color. To me it is one of the best year round colors, that is not black or white.
Sweater: To old I can't remember
Tank: New York & Co
Tank: Target
Jeans: Converse (Oh how I wish they still sold these at Target)
Boots: Bass Outlet

Then I step outside of my comfort zone with this shirt. It is brighter than the picture shows but still in the same orange/coral family. This shirt also has silver threads running through it. Even though it was brighter and glittery I loved the arrows and the saying so I just had to get it.
Shirt and Jeans: Target
Boots: Bass Outlet

Mouse got on the what color is this band wagon with my favorite owl shirt. Poor girl is stuck wearing owls because Mom loves them so much. She would much rather wear dogs or cats.
Owl Shirt: Old Children's Place
Skirt: JC Penny
Tights: Target
Leg Warmers: To old I can't remember
She did have thrifted brown boots on but again she refuses to wear shoes inside so she never gets pictured in them.

What We Wore Wednesday ~ Shades of Pink

I always seem to go in waves of color. One week or more I will wear a color more than any other, this past one was pink. I never do it consciously it just seems to happen.
This outfit I mixed my pale pink, what I call, ballet top with more winter pieces. Since Minnesota has yet to realize spring is suppose to be starting.
Ballet Top: To old to remember
Sweater: Target
Skirt: Zulily
Boots and Belt: Bass Outlet
Pin came with the ballet top.

In the midst of these cold days I think I gravitate to the spring colors just to trick myself into thinking it is warmer than it is.
Pink Skirt: Borrowed stolen from Mom's closet
Sweater: Thrifted
Tank: Target
Boots: Bass Outlet

Mouse on the other hand is always colorful and bright. I love that is always looking for ways to add more color.
This outfit she finished off with black boots but she has a real issue with shoes worn indoors even for pictures.
Sweater: JC Penny
Tights: Target
Skirt: Thrifted.

What We Wore Wednesday

I have realized that when I pick out outfits for Mouse that they tend to have the same feel as the outfits I have been wearing. If I am wearing more brights then she is wearing more bright colors as in this past week I was wearing more earth tones so she did too.

I happened to have loved how this outfit came together. I did muted color blocking with the cream top, green skirt and beige sweater. The brown necklace, belt and boots completed the look. As I said I loved it, my Mom and Steve both weren't to sure about it.
I have been buying more blazers lately. The blazer jean look works really well at my new work. I also love that on days like it has been where it is snowy and cold, I can wear my winter boots all day.
On one of the days where it warmed up for a little bit Mouse wore a cut mixture of lace and boots. I loved the combo of floral and lace with the western style skirt.

Tops from 2012

This past year has seemed to fly by. Looking back through the post of this last year, I must say it's been a fun one.
My favorite part of last year was a family trip to here.
I love that we can take these trips and experience all that there is. So looking forward to our family trip to Jamaica this year.
We also managed to get a lot of projects completed this past year. My favorite one being our new door.
Seriously the difference this made to the look of our house is incredible. Still months later this makes me smile when I pull into the drive.

Another remake we did that I love is our thrifty bench find.
I can't wait to get some pictures taken using this bench. Which brings me to a huge thing from last year. I started my own business. That has been challenging and fun all at the same time.
Thus being said my picture taking in general has increased a lot this year. And I have been looking at different ways to document those pictures. That is when I stumbled on this thing called Smash Journal / Art Journaling. So I combined the two (though this one is much more just a smash journal).
I hope to work on more of this in this next year.
I haven't forgotten Mouse. Her and I did some fun knock offs for school this year. No Mini Boden budget here but you couldn't tell with the shirt we made. I had so much fun planning these out with her. We will have to do move of that next year.
So what else do you our readers (and us) have to look forward to next year. I am hoping to get our project page done. Then you can see all that we have been working on in one place. I am hoping to do more recipes. I cook all the time I need to post more. We have one more room in our house that needs to be finished and a few more outdoor projects. But for now it's New Years and we have a party to get ready for. So see you all next year.

What we Wore Wednesday

I love that my new job has a more relaxed dress code, meaning I can wear shirts to the office that have a design on them!  For that past seven years I have worked my way through a strict dress code (no open toed shoes) to a slightly more relaxed dress code, sweater sets to now a business causal to causal setting. I am loving that possibilities this gives me with my wardrobe. Goodbye stuffy suits and prim sweater sets.  Hello, fun patterns and trending layering.

Alright it won't be that quick of a transition, I still have an entire closet full of the first and very few pieces of the latter. But each time I go shopping it will slowly decrease in boring to fun.

Here is my first stab at a printed shirt for work.
Peacock Shirt and Pants: New York & Co
Sweater: Target
Boots: Bass Outlet
Mouse rocked the blue and white combo to. I love what she adds to outfits, like this cute sweater over the dress.
Sweater: Children's Place
Dress & shoes: Thrifted
Jeans: Target
And here is one of those hold over outfits from my previous environment. Sweater set and scarf combo.
Pants: New York & Co
Sweater: Target
Scarf: Gifted
And here is just a cute picture of how Mouse is normally at our house. She and her cat Frankenstein have a special bond that is so fun to watch.
