What I Wore Wednesday ~ StitchFix Review May

StitchFix, Minnesota, Fashion, review
I know StitchFix is suppose to be a small part about the surprise, but I have never been good at surprises. So every time I get the email telling my Fix is on the way, I immediate go to the checkout screen and start Googling the items in the cart.
This time I had asked for some tank tops and a fun dress. When I image searched the items listed I was so disappointed, none of it looked fun or what I asked for. The only thing that I saw was the tank above which I had pinned so was happy about that.

Then my box arrived and WOW, I was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing!
None of the items looked like what I had Googled except for that first tank. This one showed as a long sleeve peach number, I was so happy to see this instead. I had asked for this one. The linen tank will be perfect for summer.
StitchFix, Minnesota, Fashion, review

The dress showed on Google as black and white dress, which would be fine but I own a lot of black and white. I was really happy to open this cream, black and pale pink number. The dress is super comfortable and the pale pink is really pretty.
StitchFix, Minnesota, Fashion, review

They also sent this necklace that I really liked, which again looked nothing like the pictures I found.
So what did I keep?
Well, I also received a pair of pale pink khaki pants that I were not pretty so those were sent back. Since I knew I was returning one item and there for would not get the discount for buying all the items, I also returned the necklace. I may still regret that but I do have similar ones already.  The rest I kept, it was the most I have ever kept from a Fix.
This box is the reason I keep getting them, I love being pleasantly surprised by what they send.
Not sure what to wear for the holidays go check out StitchFix.

Laptop Bag

My work has finally given me a laptop to work with, but the bag they gave me lacks all personality. Which means I am on the hunt for a cute but sturdy bag. I need one that can hold my mammoth of a laptop and still be able to hold a notebook and papers. I want  it to hold up to heavy weights and travel. To top it off I also would love to buy something that I know my dollars are going to a good cause.
This would have been my first choice but it is just a tad bit to small. Though Better Life Bags fit the bill in well made and good cause. From their website: "But the bags are not the focus of my business.  I desire to use my business and the platform it gives me to help others.  Since Better Life Bags started, I had been giving a percentage of the profits to low income enterpreneurs in developing countries through Kiva.org.  I still plan on doing this in moderation.  However, I also want to invest in the community God has placed us in currently.  We moved to Detroit in April 2010 to invest in a small community here called Hamtramck.  With 27 different languages spoken, a median income of $23,000, and housing values falling by 80% there is much need here. We hire women, who otherwise could not work, to work for us.  We pay them a living wage (20-25% of the total retail price) and watch them gain dignity, honor, and respect." But it is too small.
My next pick is this one from United by Blue. I love the mission of this company: (from their site) "We have always been passionate about the ocean and the waterways that lead us there. United By Blue was founded in 2010, driven by the idea of associating the sale of each product with a concrete environmental action. For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways through company organized and hosted cleanups." With how much I love the water, this company is so great. I also really like the detailing on this bag. My only complaint is no shoulder strap, with traveling I think I will need that.
My other idea has been to buy a bag through Amazon Smile, so even though the bag isn't possibly as ethical as I would like it, my money is still helping a cause of my choosing. This bag hits the mark in lots of areas, plenty bug, shoulder strap and cute, but there is not much for reviews on it and at it's low price point I am worried on its sturdiness.

So I need help...
I need a laptop bag for a 15.4 screen laptop. Any ideas?

What I Wore Wednesday ~ StitchFix Review

I started out with Stitchfix years ago and had a lot of fun for the first several months. But then I thought it was becoming tiresome. I was not receiving items I asked for and did not feel like my preferences were being heard. Fast forward, 6 months later, I am bored with my clothes and have no time to shop. So, I sent Stitchfix a message, I wanted to give them another try but I expected more out of them. More like I was hearing from the other bloggers who love them.
Now three fixes into it, I can honestly say I am so glad I went back!
For this one I had sent my stylist Casey (love her) a note saying I was looking for a date night outfit. I also gave her links to two styles that I was looking for. Here they are one and two. I also always say to send me dresses.
Here is what she sent me. The above shirt, which is very similar to the top in outfit one. I really liked it and Steve really liked this one too. I decided to keep it.
I was also sent this jacket, which was also in the picture I sent her. I have never tried on this style before and was sad when it looked better on the hanger. It was exactly what I wanted so  me not keeping it is no fault of Stitchfix.

I also received this sweater, which was really soft and fit great but I am not a fold over collar fan.

The dress I was sent was this one, which I liked on the hanger but the front pleats didn't do my figure any favors. I was disappointed in this one two because on paper/hanger it was the perfect dress for me.
Then I was sent this shirt, it was perfect for the outfit two I  had sent. I love it!! This sweater is so thin and soft, I could wear it everyday. In fact I have already worn it twice since receiving it.
I am so excited for the next box, I asked for a navy maxi shirt this time, we'll see what she finds. This time around when I have asked for something and she can't find it in my price point, size or color; Casey is good to mention it and why she thought another item she sent is a good substitute.
If you are on the fence on Stitchfix or have quit, I would recommend giving them another shot. I can say for my self they have improved.

What I Wore Wednesday ~ Stitch Fix

I have to say I am really glad I gave Stitch Fix another go and that I got Casey as a stylist. She is perfect. Have I liked everything she's sent, no but she definitely understand my likes. This time I asked specifically for a great pair of black leggings.
She sent this white and black lace top. It was really comfortable but a bit to boxy for me.

Next up is this dress which both Steve and I loved in the box but once on I just couldn't pull the trigger on it. The arm holes were a bit big and a bit to long for my tastes. But color choice is spot on, I might have a love for navy and red.

I loved this top! The fit was great and the color (again navy) was good. But it's soo cold here, like -8 degrees, so I couldn't get this top. Now if she re-sends it come spring or summer, I may have to buy it. The sleeves were just to puffy to wear with a sweater over it.

The sweater was really really soft but it was a bit short. And white sweaters, white anything, doesn't really work for me. I am way to klutzy.

Then she hit the jack pot! She sent these great pointe pants. I can not say enough about how much I love them!! They are a nice thick and the perfect ankle length. I kept these would probably buy another pair, they are that comfortable.

StitchFix #6 ~ What I Wore Wednesday

I did the StitchFix thing a while back and got a little frustrated with the lack of selection I was getting and the customer service. But last month I was not finding anything I liked at the stores, so I thought I would give them another try. I wrote an email to the team talking about some of the issues I had with my previous fixes, I rewrote my profile and gave a detailed account of what I was looking for this time. I am so glad I did!
I really felt that my stylist listened to what I was saying this time and took a good look at my Pinterest board to see what I like. Everything she sent me this time I liked and a few pieces I loved!
I had told them if they could find a blue, green or red trench coat to replace my worn out one I would love them. And they did! Though this one is a bit too dark of a navy than what I was looking for and the wrong material. I was still happy that they listened and found it. I did return it because I hate vinyl, it's loud. They didn't know my issues with vinyl so I consider this one a win for them even though I returned it.

Next up was this satin and knit mix tank top. I really liked this one. The arm holes were a bit big but with a tank under it would have been fine. I came really close to keeping this top too but thought the price tag was a bit steep for a tank top.

Next up was this satin short sleeve paisley top. This fit really well but I am just not a huge satin top fan that I couldn't pull the trigger. Though it fit so good (not that it looks great in the though) that I also came close to keeping it. And probably would have if I hadn't fallen in love with the last item.

I loved the stripe dress! This is where I really felt like the stylist looked through my profile. I have 3 or more of these pinned on Pinterest. I love stripes and nautical clothes. The cute dip in the back makes me love it even more.

I loved the neutral style of this dress where I can dress it up or down. It is also really soft, kind of like wearing jammies to work especial paired with fleece lined tights.
They really impressed me this time, so I decided to give them another shot this month, I will let you know how it turns out.

What We Wore Wednesday

I have spent all summer and fall searching for the perfect pair of gray booties and I have to announce:
I FOUND THEM!!
I am so pleased with these little boots. Thank DSW for having the perfect pair at a great price.
Even with my pasty legs they still look great.
My first time wearing them I paired them with my new Old Navy T-shirt and A.n.a Jeans. Unfortunately the blue wash of the jeans rubbed off on the boots a bit but no to bad. I still love them.

Mouse on the other hand has plenty of cute boots but she has a thing against wearing shoes indoors, she absolutely refuses to do it even for pictures. So imagine this outfit with cute knee high black boots.

What We Wore Wednesday

It's my birthday! Yep, it is! So, I get to make it my day. Which means I am pretending it is not 10 below outside. I am pretending I am not at work.
On my day, I would be waking up late, drink some coffee and then do some online shopping.  After that I would go out to lunch then walk around some shops. To finish the day dinner with family.
But since, I can't do any of that till Saturday, I will just do the normal What I Wore Post.
I am loving how soft these over the knee socks are from Target.
Also soft is Mouse's new sweater dress.
I think she just likes it because she gets to wear her hot pink tights.
My other soft cold weather item is my red sweater. I am kind of excited by the long tank under it.

What We Wore Wednesday

I was so excited when I found this owl skirt! Seriously it's the cutest pattern ever. Thank you Bass outlet for a cheap price and a fun, quirky pattern and that it matches my mustard sweater!
Again I can say thank you to the blogging world to get me outside of my comfort zone to buy this skirt.
Mouse loves her grey skirt and tights look. Though I am not sure if I like how old she looks in this combo.

What We Wore Wednesday

I think I am seriously in love with these camel colored dress pants. My Mom actually bought them for me for a job interview, along with the navy blazer shown below. Job interview you say, yep that is right! This is what I wore to a job interview last month.
And I got the job! I am leaving the world of Academia after just a year and headed back into the world of helping people. I am so excited to be working for a program I can really get behind again. It has been years since I was this happy about my job.
So what will I be doing? I am going back to the world of compliance but this time I will be working with an eating disorder clinic/program. I will be working on internal compliance and accreditations. Then down the road I will start working on business improvement plans. I can't wait to be apart of making the clients lives better.
And since most of you come on Wednesdays to see outfits here is another way I styled the camel pants.
But right now I have a week off between jobs, so I am having fun with Mouse and Steve.
Mouse as always is staying cute in her outfit.
I love her striped dress from ThredUp with the denim shirt over it. I may just copy this look from her if I ever find a dress like that. She did finish the outfit out with black boots.

What We Wore Wednesday

I am keeping it real in these pictures games, food, balloons and paintings on the floor in the background. Just a day in the life right?!?
I think these outfits are the last warm weather outfits I should have, since it's suddenly become winter here in Minnesota. No more bare legs, we barely had a fall this year, I missed a lot of socks and boots days.
I feel like I am falling back into my habit of matchy-match in my clothes. I want to add pops of color or patterns but I tend to stick to basics.
This shirt is from Thredup.com and I love the pleats down the front. Please ignore the water mark on the front, I guess I can't wash my hands with out getting water all over me.
I love this dress/top of Mouse's and sad that I think this will be her last year with it. She is growing to fast.

What We Wore Wednesday

Years ago I tried to do the full bangs look and an hour afterwards I had them pulled back with bobbie pins. Since then I have been very hestitant to try them again. But I was looking for a change with this hair cut and I really didn't want to mess with the length. So I did the Zooey Deschanel bangs look...
And  I love them! I am not sure why I waited so long now.
And look at those pretty waves, I love my hairdresser friend, she makes my hair look so good.
See even with the total "Mom" look outfit the bangs still look good. And I can't say enough how much I love ThredUp.com! These Chaps pants $6, new with tags still on them. Love that store.
I can't remember how I styled my hair up before bangs, they whole look is just better. And after two years I still love this owl scarf, thanks Mom!
And Mouse can pull off the blazer and t-shirt look like no ones business. If she would let me I would dress her in some form of this look everyday. As it is I probably dress her in it once a week.

What We Wore Wednesday

The first part of fall here was so warm, it was great to be jacket it less for a few weeks. Not that we are able to now, it seems like we skip right on over to winter this week, complete with snow flurries. So lets pretend it's still warm and see what I wore during that time and I have outfit picks I forgot to post those weeks.
This is my weekend shopping outfit, which I always regret wearing those shoes for.

This is one of my favorite combo's, I love my deer shirt and mustard sweater together. I did finish this outfit with brown boots.
Mouse went classic this year for her school pictures look.

Lace t-shirt and jeans is always a great look, then she added the owl necklace for a trendy piece. Now if only I could find some brown boots on the cheap she would have finished the outfit perfectly. Instead I am sure she wore her Dr Who shoes with this.

What We Wore Wednesday

Being a busy mom, shopping has not been something I do often, beyond the all inclusive shopping trips to Target, so online clothes shopping has become my norm. I have different clothes delivered, as you can see here and here. I also buy a lot of our clothes from an online from Thredup which is a virtual thrift shop. But there I found Sevenly!
What are they?
"In January of 2011, two young EntrepreneursDale Partridge and Aaron Chavez got together with the mission of leading a generation toward generosity. With a belief that people mattered, they began a journey to change the world. On June 13th 2011, Sevenly was born. By creating weekly cause campaigns where customers could purchase products that gave $7 to a weekly charity, Sevenly successfully unlocked not only a way to crowd-fund for causes, but to drive massive social awareness as well." ~ From their website.
What a great concept right? I get to buy clothes that go to a good cause, win win!
I knew what my first purchase would be when they featured this shirt. This is my favorite saying and it's a globe in a chalkboard style. It's perfect. And I have to say it's soo soft and comfortable.
Mouse is also in love with her new jacket. She found this at a local thrift shop the other day and fell instantly in love. And even though we were there to look for shoes, it is rare she really asks for clothes that I couldn't say no.
Even though it is blue fur! Yep, so outside of my comfort zone but she loves it and that is what matters.
Do your kids have a favorite outfit that just makes you shake your head?

What I Wore Wednesday ~ StylingOn Review

I hadn't been overly satisfied with my last two Stitch Fix boxes, so much so that I never even posted them. I contacted them after the first disappointment and they made tried to make up for it, but I still was wowed. Then I see an ad on Facebook of all places (I never have clicked on a Facebook ad) for StylingOn.
I still liked the concept of StitchFix, clothes mailed to my house, picked out for my style by someone else; in essences I don't have time to get to the mall and shop for myself. I also love the idea of someone sending me things that will push my comfort zone.
StylingOn seemed to offer some features that improve my other experience. They don't charge a fee! How they work is they charge you the whole box and then you can return whatever doesn't work (even the whole box) and they will refund your money. I liked the idea of not feeling like I had to keep something. They also focus on building an entire outfit for you.
StylingOn will send you the entire look: top, bottoms jacket, dress or some combination of that with shoes, jewelry and a handbag. It all sounded pretty good, so I gave it a try.
I am so excited about my first experience with them. When I signed up I asked for them to send me Emerald Green and work style clothes. Here is what I was sent:
First it comes in this way cute box, which my daughter quickly confiscated.
I was really unsure about the shoe part but was very surprised with what they sent.
Not only did they fit but I liked them. Sadly, I didn't keep them since I own black booties.
I was happy to see that they sent me a green.
I told them my style is preppy, which they nailed with this outfit. But combined together I wasn't thrilled with how it looked on me. Each piece looked good on it's own though. The green sweater was wool though and I just wasn't sure I would remember to wash it correctly.
The skirt was really cute on it's own. It was hard to decide which piece to keep, since I only could keep one at this point.
For jewelry they sent this great necklace. I mean I loved this necklace, my mom loved it, my sister-in-law loved it. I just could pull the trigger at its price point and I own one similar to it. But I will probably always regret not keeping it.
I also asked that they not send me a handbag, I just never change mine out. So instead they sent me another article of clothes again hitting my green request dead on.
This Kenzie dress was soo soft, it felt like jammies. I really liked it but the sleeves were just off enough that it was odd wearing a sweater or jacket over it. But I debated this one for quite a while.
So what did I keep??
I kept this white shirt with tab sleeves. I picked it because I thought it would give me the most versatile looks. I paired it with riding boots and teal necklace.
But for work I paired it with a pencil skirt.
Not sure if the booties worked with it but I liked that I could wear for work or fun.
I have to say I am excited to see what my next StylingOn box shows up with.
