April Winds, I mean Showers

This year has not brought us the warm showers of spring, instead we are having the bitter winds of autumn. But when the sun is shining it can get pretty warm. It was decided that Mouse needed a spring coat for school. She has a nice short khaki trench coat for church and such. But now one she can enjoy the playground with. I decided making her what I was looking for would be the easiest. Mostly because I had a huge swath of brown corduroy left over from who know what. In fact might have inherited that lot. I also had a matching 2 yards of white and brown striped cotton. You might remember the fabric from this project.
I took Mouse's trench coat and laid it out over some news paper and traced around the different sections to make my pattern.
I then cut out the pattern in both the brown and the stripe. Sewing it together was easy. Last time I made Mouse a jacket the lining didn't quite work as well as this one. I then added a belt loop to the back of the jacket and made a belt with left over stripped material.
I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. Things I would change: The lapels and collar. I am not happy at all with the way those two things turned out. The coat is not perfect symmetrical, but I reminded myself it was meant to be a play coat for school so who cares. She likes it that is all that matters.

  1. Wow, I don't think I could do that. Very cute, love the stripes!
