When You Can't Tell

Today is Five Minute Fridays so lets link up and write
So I write for Five minute, no edits, no re dos and at the end I will see if there are pictures from my week Instagram feed that match the words of this week.
Topic: Tell

When you look at me I seem healthy and strong. I look like your average 30 something Mom.
But if you watch long enough you will see that I favor my right side. That I try and not lift things, especially over my head. On some days you may see a slight (or pronounced) limp.
If you listen you may hear a loving eleven year old say
"No, Momma, I will lift that for you"
At those times if you look closely you will see my eyes fill up with tears. For I have a caring child but also one who has to take care of her Mom sometimes, and that just doesn't seem fair.

What I see, is Mothers giving me the look of what's wrong with you, without asking. The why is your child lifting boxes why you stand there.
What I hear is the whispered words behind hands.

Because we don't know what to do with people we can't tell are sick.
Whether it is with pain, depression or something else internal if it is not visible to those around
"You must not be that sick"
That is the message we push.
And yes your right, I could be a lot sicker. But it is still a struggle.
So many struggle
So many hide the struggle.

Can we open our hearts and minds to that?
That we may not be able to Tell what the person in front of you is going through, so be kind.

~ Cassi

  1. Amen! We cannot always tell what others are going through. That is such a good reminder. Thank you so much for your words. Leigha

  2. So very true! It is impossible to know what is going on inside someone else's life.

I relate to your words, because earlier this year I had back trouble and then sciatica pain and I am so much better, but still recovering. I watch what I do much more closely and my children pitch in very willingly, yet I was used to just doing things and not needing a lot of assistance. Life offers so many lessons in the big and small.

  3. Dear Cassi, I hope your message travels far and wide. We need to stop judging people. We need to be kind.

    Wish you well
